 TOORO MITYANA RESIDENT’S ASSOCIATION (TOMIRA)

 

Objectives:

(a)   To transact cultural, social and economical interaction amongst the members and the people of Mityana and Tooro Kingdom.

(b)  To promote unity and harmonious mutual co-existence amongst members of the Districts of Tooro kingdom and Mityana.

(c)    To promote culture like tradition dance, traditional dressing and music, dance and drama.

(d)  To act as reputable ambassadors of Tooro kingdom and to unite and promote the relationship between the Tooro kingdom and Buganda kingdom.

(e)   To jointly fight for the eradication and eradication and alleviation of poverty in Mityana district and to remove obstacles that hinder economic development.

(f)    To organize and establish a centre to care for the disadvantaged groups like the orphans, disabled, the widows, the elderly, and to cater for their necessities.

(g)   To strengthen and encourage the involvement of the rural community in environmental protection activities and sustainable agricultural system and to establish an information technology center aiming at sensitizing the public on issues pertaining to environmental protection which when not well protected influences and affects the conditions of out living.

(h)   To establish primary, secondary and tertiary and other institutions to cater for the education of the less privileged as listed in (f) above.

(i)     To carry out construction work like buildings of all sorts, water tanks, water reservoirs, boreholes, protected springs and shallow wells among other for purposes of providing water nearer to the community to improve on sanitation as well as reduce infection rate of diseases caused by use of poor water.

(j)    To educate the community about healthy care, hygiene and dangers of adolescent sex and safe guard measures to enhance high standards of living.

(k)  To build and establish a special home to accommodate the beneficiaries especially the elders and their sensitization.

(l)     To mobilize resources to enable residents in Kyaka county to access electricity or any other source of power that may seem to be economical and effective to wards the users.

(m)   To conduct research study and educate the community of community based projects including agro-forestry, horticulture, livestock keeping, crop production and other matter relating to the environment.

(n)   To act as information disseminators on development issues and enlighten the republic on major legal aspects affecting their day to day lives.

(o)  To carry out gender sensitization to enable both men and women to be equal competitors in the development process.

(p)  To act as advocacy for the less privileged in bargaining for improving and caring for their rights and privilege within government and other independent organizations established to care for specialized groups.

(q)  To carry out seminars and workshops for the members and other beneficiaries at local council levels, parish and sub-county level to sensitize the local community leaders and general public about various aspects of crop and livestock production, on ways and advantages of protecting the environment and other business communities.

(r)    To establish an inquiry and information centre where different people from the society shall be educated and can research on matters causing and increasing orphans, child abuse, illiteracy, poverty and to enable them overcome such challenges.

(s)   To organize and establish self-sustaining projects to benefit the orphans, the poor, the disadvantaged, the abandoned children, street kids, the aged, the youth, the helpless and the sick people including those affected and infected by HIV/AIDS.

(t)    To act as a link with other service providers and technical people or groups of people or specialists to educate the local people on their legal obligations, applicable of laws and rights especially on matters attaching land as well as their human rights.

(u)   To establish a cultural group to demonstrate through dancing, singing and drama with the purpose of expressing issues, factors and programs practically to encourage members to participate in different workshops and seminars and to enable participants grasp information easily.

(v)   To us the organization as a centre of spiritual and moral guidance, by working hand in hand with spiritual groups like churches, such that exemplary character of the members influences the neighborhood and the community at large.

(w)  To promote awareness geared at creating behavioral change among the sexually transmitted Diseases and vulnerability of individual and communities to HIV/AIDS. Focus on children, youth, women and promoting aids care, social support and protection of rights of people with AIDS infected individuals and families in general.

(x)   To establish, develop and extend the spirit of sharing, believing and loving, to avoid isolation of the privileged wherever they may be found to enable them settle down their minds and concentrate on developmental issues.

(y)   To associate with other partners with expertise knowledge, trainers/ facilitators, donors, visitors friends and well wishers to promote the organization’s objectives for the benefits of the members.

(z)   To solicit for grants, donations, gifts, and any form of good, assets, movable or immovable property in solid form or monetary terms for supply to members of the organization for their well being.
